This section tries to describe all the aviation stamps released by the Dutch Caribbean Islands (Curaçao,
Netherlands Antilles and Aruba). The first stamps in the colony Curaçao were released in 1873. It was until
1943 before the first aviation stam
ps were released by the colony Curaçao. In 1948 the name of the colony
Curaçao changed to Netherlands Antilles and in 1986 Aruba sep
arates from the Netherlands Antilles to
become an independent  part in the kingdom of the Netherlands, which since 1986 consist of The
Netherlands, The Netherlands Antilles and Aruba.

Remarks:
Four Air Mail stamps of the series released on 20 October 1942 were again released with an overprinted
additional value for prisoners of war on 1 December 1943. Interesting in this series is the last stamp of this
series (60 cent + 100 cent). The official stamp description according to the Dutch Stamp catalogue from the
NVPH is: 'Aircraft over Curaçao. The aircraft on this stamps looks like a Fokker F.XX. Only one Fokker F.XX
was build and served with the KLM Royal Dutch Airlines with registration PH-AIZ, named 'Zilvermeeuw' from
August 1933 until September 1936. Via a fake airline the aircraft went to civil war in Spain in 1936, where it
crashed in february 1938. The aircraft never flew in the Caribbean and so it is strange that this aircraft became
a subject of a stamp released by the Colony Curaçao in 1942.
