EVENT COMPLETED Thanks to all participants! Official results AW-DIV Around the World Race 2008 official results First of all I want to thank everyone who participated. As you will read from the detailed results it wasn't easy at all for the participants of the "Around the World 2008". Thursday 17th of April 22:00 UTC, all teams receive the ATWR 2008 route via email and start planning between themselves the route and who flies which leg etc. Route: Aruba-Mallorca (Spain)- Kathmandu (Nepal)-Tokyo (Japan)-Honolulu (USA)-Las Vegas (USA)-Aruba for a total of about 19511 nautical miles. Friday 18th of April 22:00 UTC event starts. Team 4 was first to leave with flight AAL2568 which departed at 22:07 (6:07pm local Aruban time). Then at 22:10, Team 1 departed with ARU757. At 23:02 Team 2 departed with ARU0734 followed by the last Team to depart, Team 5 which left at 23:55. Team 3 which consisted of Gerardo Janga and Elison Mercera could not make the race because one of the members was unable to fly the race. Leg 1 The first leg went well for all of the teams except team 5 which got penalized 0:15 minutes for overspeeding. Saturday 19th of April Leg 2 Teams started arriving at Mallorca at around 2am local (Aruba) time. Team 1 departed Mallorca within a couple of minutes. During this leg however ARU1213 overspeeded 5 times which added 1:15 to their total time. Team 2 also departed quickly (less then 10 min after ARR of teammate) but might have really hurt their chances on this leg being penalized 12 times this leg for overspeeding adding an additional 3 hours to their total time. Team 4 also departed quickly to Kathmandu and we should remark that they still had NO penalties. Team 5 departed Mallorca with the same IVAO ID thus we cannot approve their 2nd leg. This was was clearly written in the rules and also explained via our email briefing on thursday. We must remark though that pilot 1 & 2 did fly some of the other legs of the race but because leg number 2 was incomplete they finished 4th place in this race. Leg 3 Team 1 again departed within a few minutes of their teammate arrival which cuts back on your total time. They did get penalized 4 times though during this leg adding 1 extra hour to their total time. Team 2 left about 15 minutes after their teammate arrival and overspeeded 2 times adding 0:30 extra minutes. Team 4 while doing much better then team 1 & 2 until this point did not continue the race (reason unknown). This lets them finish at 3th place in this years race. Leg 4 Team 1 departed at 20:25 (4:25pm) with just a couple of minutes of difference but once again overspeeded 2 times adding another 0:30 to their time. Team 2 took about 20 minutes to depart after his teammate arrived but did not receive any penalties during this leg. We must mention that there were server problems reported by both teams 1 & 2 during leg 3 & 4 which we took into account. Leg 5 As midnight (Saturday local time) was approaching, leg 5 was flown with results: Team 1 Leg was completely ok. Team 2 Leg was completely ok. The race to this point was still very very close and any mistake now could mean the difference between winning and loosing. Leg 6 Team 1 made another good relay of about 10 minutes between the flights but picked up 0:45 extra time due to penalties. They departed this last leg at 4:20am (Ouch!). Team 2 really hurt their chances when on leg 6 they relayed each other almost 0:45 minutes after the arrival of the previous leg. They did not pick up any penalties on this leg though but we must note that at the arrival to TNCA they were still at about FL330 and kept circling for an additional 0:30+ minutes. Final results: Team 1 DEP time: 22:10 Friday ARR time: 15:29 Sunday Penalties (14): 3:30 Time: 41:19 + 3:30 TOTAL TIME: 44:49 Team 2 DEP time: 23:02 Friday ARR time: 17:57 Sunday Penalties (14): 3:30 (note: same amount of penalties as Team 1) Time: 42:55 + 3:30 TOTAL TIME: 46:25 WINNER: Team 1 Air Aruba Virtual ARU757 Aldrin Wever ARU1213 Rubin Ponson Team 2 (Second place - Difference 1:36 hrs behind Team 1) Conclusion: Team 2 might have lost it at leg 2 & 6 as the penalties and relay extra time did not help their cause. This race was specially challenging because you needed a dependable partner to win. We believe it's for that reason that only 2 teams were even able to finish the race. Worth mentioning is also that the best pilot for this event was Mr. Hubert Croes ARU0734 of Team 2. He only got penalized 2 times during his 3 legs and had very good relay times. I want to once again thank everyone who participated and congratulate the winning team. See you in 2009 for the next "Around the World Race", are you up for the challenge??? Regards, Hyro Oduber EVENT RULES IMPORTANT: REVISED 16 APRIL 2008! Participants please read! All participants please read carefully. Shall you have any questions about these rules please contact our Event Director before the event. -Event starts at 22:00 UTC on the 18th of April 2008 at TNCA. ALL TEAMS MUST DEPART between 22:00 to 02:00 UTC (19th April 2008). Departure PRIOR or AFTER these hours is not permitted and if this is the case your team will get disqualified from competition. ATC service may not be available, if that is the case please monitor 122.80 and advice your intentions and respect other teams and aircrafts that may be at the airport. -World tour legs will be announced 1 day prior to the event (we will setup a webpage for this). -You must have the correct Departure and Arrival airport codes in your flightplan at all times and during all legs. Should this not be the case your leg will not be validated and you will have to fly again. So please check and recheck prior to departure from the relevant airports. -It is also highly important to set the correct aircraft type in your flightplan. If for example you are flying a B747 in the FS and you set a C172 in your IVAP FP, we will add 2 hours to your total time (for each leg with wrong aircraft). This aircraft type will also have to be in the respective VA fleet list. Correct and official aircraft types will be available on our webpage. Military type aircrafts are not allowed. -Event Staff will not control your route, FL etc. In other words you may file a normal flightplan but fly direct (gps) afterwards to save time. This either by requesting direct clearance to the ATC or at pilots descretion (if no ATC online). -Maximum speed for this race is 575 GROUNDSPEED. Each time you pass the speed limit, 15 additional minutes will be added to your total time. Keep in mind and make adjustments for tail winds which may briefly push you over the limit. This is a very strict rule and to ensure fairness for everybody, the Event Staff will control every leg of the race before announce official results. We recommend everybody to cruise at 490 to 500 groundspeed to be on the safe side. -Our Event Staff will be calling the pilots via chat every so often. For this reason it is important you are at or close to your PC at all times. Failure to respond within 5 minutes will set you back 30 minutes. -Event staff will not disconnect anyone from the IVAO network or ask a SUP to disconnect for not being at your desk. -Please be polite at all times, specially during taxi at the airports. Respect other traffic and teams. Flying (or driving) into other aircrafts or not complying to ATC instruction can eliminate you from competition. Should any aircraft block your taxiway or runway (seemingly on purpose), you are allowed to go AROUND IT and depart. Should they be on the runway obstructing your landing or departure, call a SUP by typing .wallop in your IVAP. -The race will have 5 or 6 legs. Only when the according leg is completed can the next leg start/depart. Your teammate may actually be at the holding point waiting for the arrival of your aircraft for him/her to depart. This can happen as soon as you clear the runway. HOWEVER, it is IMPORTANT not to block any relevant TAXIWAY, HOLDINGPOINTS etc. for a prolonged period of time. Give way to other teams and local traffic whenever it is needed. Failure to do this can have you eliminated from competition. -Flying from the same computer is allowed as long as players use their respective IVAO ID. All teams consist of 2 pilots. -Race finishes when you reach TNCA and you will be given your arrival time by an Event Staff. -Results will be given and published as soon as all pilots are in and the Event Staff has checked their flights (penalties etc.) Scoring system is as follows: Total time between departure time (TNCA) and arrival time (TNCA) plus penalties (if any) will be your total time for the tour. Official Teamspeak channel: AW-ATW Invitational on server nl.ts.ivao.aero Have fun and good luck to ALL, may the best team win! Invited Virtual Airlines Air Aruba , Air Curacao, ALM, American Airlines, American Trans Air, North American, Taca, Aerolineas Argentinas, Avianca, Avior, Varig, Viasa and Zuliana. Tips -Have your teammate's phone number, IM (MSN, Yahoo), email or anything that you can quickly get in contact with him/her. -Plan together, for example it is recommend that after take off you can give your teammate an estimate time of arrival so he can plan ahead and be at the next airport on time and fully ready for departure and so on until reaching TNCA again. |
